Die Karten der Amsterdamer Familie Danckerts prägten über lange Zeit die räumlichen Vorstellungen von Südosteuropa. Das Zeitalter der türkischen Vorherrschaft – so die klare Botschaft der Karte – war vorbei. Mit der Rückeroberung von Belgrad durch die kaiserlichen Truppen 1688 verlor das Osmanische Reich – wenn auch nur für kurze Zeit – seine wichtigste Bastion.

Maps by the Amsterdam Danckerts family shaped the spatial conceptions of South-Eastern Europe for a long time. The era of the Turkish hegemony was over –that was the clear message of this map. With the recovery of Belgrade by the Emperor’s troops in 1688 the Ottoman Empire lost its most important bastion, albeit only for a short time.
