Much of a personal dimension they reveal

Krisztina Csizmadia - art historian

As a professional who tries to approach the artworks objectively and matter-of-factly, in reviewing Miklós’s collection I was touched by how much of a personal dimension they reveal. The dedications on the graphics are sometimes reminiscent of correspondence. The inscriptions of József Jakovits and András Böröcz are the testimonies of friendships formed in America; the dedications of Tihamér Gyarmathy and Ilona Keserü are souvenirs of visits back to Hungary. There are also works inspired by very close friendships: El Kazovsky's affectionate messages are written on the margins of graphic works, while Ildikó Bálint entitled some of her serigraphs Excursion to Mr. Miklós Müller. He has welcomed both artists and art historians from Hungary as guests at his home for decades. Previously, I only managed to get to know most artists through university classes, catalogues, scholarly journals and magazine articles, but reading their inscriptions and seeing their works allowed me to gain insight into their personalities and personal relationships. From this point of view, Miklós and his collection are a link to me with 20th and 21st century artists.
